SHORT BIOGRAPHY
Education: Fatihiya Ally Massawe is an Associate Professor, Researcher, and Consultant in Gender and Rural Development. She is holding a PhD in Rural Development from the Sokoine University of Agriculture and a Postgraduate Diploma in Poverty Analysis that was jointly offered by ESRF, REPOA, and ISS (Netherlands). Ms. Fatihiya is also a holder of a Master of Science degree in International Development Studies majoring in Rural Development Sociology from Wageningen University- the Netherlands and a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics and Human Nutrition from the Sokoine University of Agriculture.
Working experience and Leadership: She has approximately twenty-five (25) years of experience as a development practitioner, academician, and leader. She has held leadership positions at various levels and is currently the Deputy Principal for Planning, Finance, and Administration at the Institute of Judicial Administration (IJA) – Lushoto. Additionally, she serves as a Board Member at the Dr. Salim Ahmed Salim Center for Foreign Relations, where she previously chaired the Council Audit Committee and was a member of the Finance and Development Committee. She is also a Council Member of Moshi Cooperative University, a Senate Member, and a member of the Academic Staff Appointment and Development Committee at the same university. Before joining IJA, she served as Head of the Department of Policy, Planning, and Management and as Deputy Principal of the College of Social Sciences and Humanities at Sokoine University of Agriculture. She is a results-oriented leader with strong team-building skills.
Research and consultancies competencies: She has spent about Eighteen (18) years working in an academic institution in which she has extensively participated in teaching, research, consultancies, and outreach activities. Her teaching experience cuts across areas of gender and development mostly gender mainstreaming in the Project/Program cycle, Poverty and Policy Analysis, Public Policies, Agriculture and Rural Development, Project Management, and Gender Integration in Project Monitoring and Evaluation. She has participated in various consultancy assignments as a gender and socio-economic expert with various organizations including the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Land O’Lakes Venture37, International Livestock Research (ILRI), the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Swisscontact etc. She has participated in various research projects as a principal and co-investigator and supervised several postgraduate students (Both Masters and PhDs) through which she has accumulated competence and skills in both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies and techniques. As a researcher, she has published several scientific publications in peer-reviewed sources in her area of specialization. She received Martha Farrell Memorial Fellowship Award to facilitate the institutionalization of Anti- Sexual Harassment Initiatives at Work Place (SUA) in 2018 hence engaging actively in fighting against sexual harassment within the workplace. She is a good gender trainer and facilitator.
